* The date for the next "Hashire! Kabocha Densha" event has not yet been decided.

Welcome to the world's shortest train journey

The former Tsukigata Station in Minami-ku, Niigata City, Japan, preserves the Niigata Kotsu Line's trains (commonly known as "Kabocha Densha" or "Kaboden" = pumpkin train) and station facilities, which were abolished in 1999.

The train, which had been stationary for about 23 years since the line was closed, started moving again in October 2022.

"Hashire! Kabocha Densha" is an event held irregularly in which one of the trains (Moha 11) preserved at the former Tsukigata Station is propelled and pulled by a small train mover called "Ant".

The round trip distance is about 100m. This is probably the shortest train trip in the world!

"Hashire! Kabocha Densha" is not a permanent event, but is held only a few times a year.
The latest event information will be posted on this web page from time to time.

Please see below for information on how to board the train and important precautions during the event.

* We are very sorry, but there will be no English-speaking staff at the event venue, so it may be difficult to answer any inquiries in English.
